Abstract
An internal combustion engine () has a fueling system comprising fuel injectors () that utilize oil under pressure to force fuel into engine combustion chambers. Oil is pumped to an oil rail () by an engine-driven pump () whose effective displacement can be varied. A control system () processes certain data, such as engine speed and load, for controlling the effective displacement of the pump. The pump has a larger stage (B) and a smaller stage (A). The control system selects and de-selects the stages to control pump displacement.
