Abstract

According to a front light comprising an optical waveguideand a light sourcearranged on the side of the optical waveguide, the optical waveguidecomprises a light input surface and light emission surface, and a plurality of deflection patternsare formed on the surface opposed to the light emission surface. Light from the light sourceis input from the light input surface of the optical waveguideand propagated in the optical waveguide. The light totally reflected by the deflection patternsamong the light propagated in the optical waveguideis emitted from the light emission surfacein the direction oblique to the normal direction of the light emission surface. The light is emitted from the light emission surfaceso as to be aligned in one direction regardless of its position.
