Abstract
A weft knitting machine having a movable sinker capable of securing a large space at a needle bed near a knitting fabric knitting area and making a pause in the state of stopping action on the knitting fabric knitting area. A sinker operating cam mechanism () installed in a carriage acts on the butt () of a sinker jack () to move the sinker jack () backward from a mouth part () so that the acting part () of the movable sinker () can retract from the mouth part (). The sinker jack () is locked to a moved back position by a locking mechanism (). Since a wire () passed through a needle plate () is utilized to lock the sinker jack () in the locking mechanism (), the locking mechanism () can be reduced in size.
