A sash balance brake shoe assembly () is disclosed for counterbalancing a sash window () slidably supported within a master frame (). The assembly generally includes a balance assembly preferably in the form of a block and tackle balance assembly () and a brake shoe (). The balance assembly has a balance channel ().
