Abstract
In a display apparatus (PI) displaying a closed-caption (Scc, DS) multiplexed in the first and second component video signals (Scv: Y, PB, and PR, Svc: Y and C) received from externally provided video signal sources, a video signal selector () selects one of said first and second component video signals (Scv, Scv); a closed-caption extractor () extracts the closed-caption (Scc, DS) from said selected one of first and second component video signals (Scv, Scv); and a controller () controls the closed-caption extractor () based on the format type of the selected first and second component video signals (Scvand Scv).
