A plurality of virtual volumes with different control functions are associated with one real volume and remote copying is conducted. A relay system comprises a plurality of virtual volumes VVmapped to the same real volume RA virtual volume Vfor transmission control is mapped to a real volume Ra real volume Ris mapped to the virtual volume Vand the virtual volume Vfor reception control is mapped to the real volume RIf a command is received from a local systemthe virtual volume Vfor reception control writes data into the virtual volume Vvia the real volume R(virtual entity). The virtual volume Vtransmits the data to a copy destination volume Vand writes the data into the real volume R
