Abstract

An object of the invention is to provide a color filter and a liquid crystal display device using the filter, which can obtain well-balanced color purities within a pixel. A color filter for coloring a first light ray Lhaving a unidirectional optical path and a second light ray Lhaving a bidirectional optical path for each pixel. The color filter includes a first area portionin which the first light ray Lis caused to be transmitted and a second area portionin which the second light ray Lis caused to be transmitted, for each pixel. The first area portionand the second area portionrespectively have structures by which different coloring effects are exerted if light rays having the same optical path and the same property pass through them.
