Abstract
A joint assemblyis provided for limiting an extension of the jointin the direction of a load path derived from an impact comprising. In its simplest form, the jointcomprises a first memberhaving a portionand a second memberhaving a portion, the portionsoverlapping one another and arranged generally parallel to one another and secured together via securing means. The securing meansis disposed through corresponding holesdefined by portionsand. At least one of the overlapping portionsorfurther defines, sequentially in the direction of extension a pocket. The securing meanscomprises a deformable memberand at least one of the overlapping portionscomprises a wedge-shaped portion. In the event of a worst-case impact load the securing meansis forced through the pocketwhile the wedge-shaped portioncauses the deformable memberto deform and thereby increase the clamping force, in a progressive manner, to limit the extension of the joint assemblyand retain an integral joint assembly
