Abstract

Provided is a method, system, and program for sending notification to an Input/Output (I/O) device comprised of multiple components of an event from an originating device that transmits data to the I/O device. The originating device detects a notification event and generates a notification message in response to the detected notification event to transmit to the I/O device. In response to receiving the notification message, the I/O device activates at least one of the multiple components. The notification message may be transmitted to the I/O device on a first port at the I/O device, where data is received at a second port at the I/O device. In response to receiving the notification message on the first port, the I/O device activates at least one of the multiple components.
