Abstract
A high pressure discharge lampcomprises a luminous bulbenclosing a luminous substanceinside and a sealing portionfor retaining the airtightness of the luminous bulb. The sealing portionhas a first glass portionextending from the luminous bulband a second glass portionprovided at least in a portion of the inside of the first glass portion, and further has a portion () to which a compressive stress is applied. In the luminous bulb, mercuric bromide (HgBr) is enclosed.
