The laser corneal surgery apparatus for ablating a cornea of a patient's eye by a laser beam comprises an observation optical system for observing the patient's eye, an irradiation optical system for irradiating the laser beam onto the cornea, and a protection plate which is disposed on an irradiation optical path between the cornea and an optical member included in the irradiation optical system and disposed in a position nearest to the cornea, and which is insertable in and removable from the optical path.
