Compounds of the formula (I) in which: Ris (CH)Y; n is 1 or 2; Y is NHSORor X—W—X—R; Xis O or NH; W is C═O, C═S, C═NH, or SO; Xis O or NH, provided that Xand Xare not both O; Ris Calkyl; Calkenyl; Calkynyl; aryl; aryl-Calkyl; aryl-Calkenyl; aryl-Calkynyl; Ccycloalkyl or C-cycloalkyl-Calkyl; and Ris hydrogen, Calkyl; Calkenyl; Calkynyl; aryl; aryl-Calkyl; aryl-Calkenyl; aryl-Calkynyl; Ccycloalkyl; or C-cycloalkyl-Calkyl; or a salt or ester thereof, modulate metabotropic glutamate receptor function and are useful in treating disorders of the central nervous system.
