Abstract
A developing unit includes a developing roller including a roller portion. The developing roller is rotatable while carrying a developing liquid on the roller portion. The developing unit also includes a voltage applying device that applies a voltage to the roller portion to form an electric field for development between the roller portion and an image carrier, whereby the developing liquid deposited on the roller portion is transferred to a latent image formed on the image carrier. The roller portion includes a volume resistivity ranging from 0 Ω·cm to 10Ω·cm.
