Abstract

An apparatus () includes a seat () for an occupant () of a vehicle (). The seat () includes a cushion portion () and a backrest portion (). The apparatus () also includes an occupant protection device () that, when actuated, resists rearward movement of the backrest portion () of the seat () relative to the cushion portion () of the seat (). A deflection mechanism () of the apparatus () is located in the backrest portion () of the seat () and is movable from a first position to a second position for actuating the occupant protection device (). The deflection mechanism () is adapted to move from the first position to the second position without the backrest portion () moving significantly relative to cushion portion ().
