Abstract

The invention relates to a device and method for determining the need for regeneration in a NOstorage catalyst () arranged in the exhaust train () of an at least periodically lean-operating internal combustion engine () for a motor vehicle. According to the invention, the need for regeneration is determined according to the engine power (P) of the internal combustion engine () and the remaining NOstorage capacity of the NOstorage catalyst.
