Abstract

A juice extractor () having a base () upon which there is mounted an electric motor (). The electric motor () drives a grating disc (). Extending upwardly from the disc () is a delivery chute () via which food is delivered to the disc (). A food engaging member is pivotally mounted in a lower portion of the chute () and is movable between an extended position projecting into the passage () of the chute () and a retracted position clearing the passage (). The member () inhibits at least larger pieces of food, such as fruit and vegetables, from engaging the disc () until the plunger () engages the food to move the food towards the disc ().
