Abstract
A friction wheel singler is proposed for singling sheet material, in particular bank notes, comprising sheet magazinefor receiving stack of sheetssingling cylinderhaving one or more friction elementsfor contacting and conveying sheetto be singled out of the magazine, and retaining deviceforming with singling cylindersingling gapthrough which sheetsto be singled out of the magazine are conveyed one by one, retaining devicehaving one or more friction areasfor contacting sheetsto be singled out of magazineFriction elementsof singling cylinderand friction areasof retaining elementhave the same friction material, whereby different frictional forces transferred to sheetby singling cylinderon the one hand, and retaining deviceon the other hand, are obtained by selecting the contact area between friction elementsof singling cylinderand sheetto be singled to be substantially larger than the contact area between friction areasof retaining elementand sheetto be singled. Any further contact areas of retaining deviceand/or singling cylinderwith the sheet to be singled have a substantially lower coefficient of friction than the friction material of friction elementsof singling cylinderand friction areasof retaining element According to a special aspect of the invention, it is proposed that the sheet material is deposited in sheet magazineon driven feed rollstoto guarantee a reliable supply of sheets to be singled to singling gapregardless of the stack height.
