Abstract
A gas generatorand a gas generant packetfor use in an inflatable vehicle occupant protection system. The gas generator includes a housing, an igniter, and one or more gas generantsand/orare positioned in a combustion chamberdefined by the housing. One or more of the gas generantsand/orare enclosed in a substantially gas-and-moisture-impermeable containerdisconnected from the housing, or suspended within the chamber, thereby forming pocket of gas generant therein. The containermay be formed from a polymer or polyester film. The gas generant packet may be variably positionable within the combustion chamberprior to activation of the igniter. A method for manufacturing a gas generatorand a method for activating a gas generatorare also disclosed.
