Abstract
Internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder, in which the combustion of a homogeneous air/fuel mixture compressed in the cylinder by a piston is initiated by a time-controlled external ignition, the air/fuel ratio of the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber () being greater than 1.9 and, for the time-controlled external ignition, at least one laser light source (), at least one optical transmission apparatus () and at least one coupling optic () for the focussing of laser light into a combustion chamber () being provided.
