Abstract
A radiant element which is heated on its rear side by a burning fluid-air mixture and whose front side emits the infrared radiation. The radiant element is produced from a highly heat resistant material which contains more than 50% by weight of a metal silicide, preferably molybdenum disilicide (MoSi) or tungsten disilicide (WSi).
