Abstract

The present invention provides process for producing polyols using a crystalline, hydroxide containing double metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst of the formulae (I) or (II),M[M(CN)]OH.L  (I)M[M(CN)].zM(OH).L  (II)wherein Mrepresents a metal selected from Zn, Fe, Ni, Mn, Co, Sn, Pb, Fe, Mo, Mo, Al, V, V, Sr, W, W, Cuand Cr, Mrepresents a metal selected from Fe, Fe, Co, Co, Cr, Cr, Mn, Mn, Ir, Ni, Rh, Ru, Vand V, L represents an organic ligand and x, y and q are chosen to maintain electroneutrality. The polyols of the present invention may find use in the preparation of polyurethanes.
