Abstract
The combination of narrowband applications with broadband transport may be enabled with a tri-level nodal communications architecture including multiple call control nodes, multiple connection control nodes and one or more intermediates node for interworking between the call control nodes and connection control nodes, in which the intermediate node(s) are controlled by all of the call control nodes. In certain embodiment(s), the identity of the call control node is transmitted to the intermediate node with each message to differentiate between the multiple call control nodes. In addition, each resource (e.g., port) managed by the intermediate node has a call control node identity associated therewith. In further embodiments, a logical port is used to support connections between call control nodes sharing the same intermediate node. The logical port represents a logical Epath between the two call control nodes.
