Abstract

Light resulting from chemiluminescence inside a reaction chamberis transmitted through a light transmitting window, a large part of the light is made incident on a photoelectric surfaceof a photomultiplier tubeto generate photoelectrons, and these photoelectrons are successively multiplied by surfacesat one side of dynodes, and. Meanwhile, a part of the light that is not made incident on photoelectric surfaceis made incident on and reflected by a surfaceat the other side of dynode, returned to reaction chambervia light transmitting window, reflected further by light reflecting surfacesandinside reaction chamber, emitted again from light transmitting window, and made incident on photoelectric surfaceof photomultiplier tubeto generate and multiply photoelectrons in the same manner as the above. The amount of light made incident on photoelectric surfaceis thus increased by the amount corresponding to the reflection at surfaceat the other side of the dynode, thereby enabling detection of light caused by weak chemiluminescence.
