Abstract

A compound capable of giving optical materials that may be high in both refractive index and Abbe's number and may be excellent in heat resistance and transparency, and a process that may produce the same with good efficiency are disclosed. The compound may be a cyclic disulfide compound including a structure represented by the following general formula (1) or (2) and having a sulfur content of from 50 to 85% by weight:wherein X represents a chain having carbon and/or sulfur as a skeleton, inclusive of cyclic ones; and the number of elements constituting X is from 1 to 4.
