Abstract
A method for generating a ring map for a bi-directional line switched ring. The method includes identifying a change in a provisioned bi-directional line switched ring and generating a ring map for both directions in the ring at a node of the ring. The generated ring maps are compared to determine if the change in the ring is a result of a link failure or a node change and the node's ring map is updated if there was a node change in the ring.
