A device for tensioning a safety belt includes a pyrotechnic linear drive. The linear drive includes a gas generator () with an ignition unit (), and a protective cap () to secure the gas generator () before and during the assembly of the gas generator (). In the installed state of the device, at least a portion of the protective cap (), after the igniting of the gas generator (), represents a function element.
