Abstract
A system and a method for removing NOfrom an internal combustion engine exhaust stream at lower temperatures, and releasing the NOback into the exhaust stream at higher temperatures, includes an occluder with an adsorbent able to selectively adsorb NOat temperatures below a predetermined temperature and desorb NOat temperatures above the predetermined temperature. The system includes an engine control module that operates the engine during cold operation so as to produce an increased ratio of NO/NO.
