Abstract
The technical field of the invention is that of motor vehicle safety involving energy absorption systems for damping the displacement of certain parts that are put into motion at the time of a mechanical collision between the motor vehicle and an externals object. The subject of the present invention relates to an energy absorption system for safety devices in a motor vehicle, comprising a pyrotechnic gas generator and a sliding position that can be displaced in a damping chamber, the said generator being able to release gas into the said chamber in order to damp the piston. The main characteristic of this system is that the gas generator delivers a variable quantity of gas and the damping chamber comprises a pressure-regulating device that is triggered above a threshold pressure.
