Abstract

Methods for making thebaine and an acid salt of thebaine are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an acid salt of thebaine is made from codeinone or an acid salt of one or more of the following: 8-methoxy-Δ-dihydrothebaine, codeinone dimethyl ketal, and neopinone dimethyl ketal.
