Abstract

In an LCD, according to an embodiment of the present invention, a projectionis structured on top of insulation layeron a TFT glass substrateand under part of a black matrix. The projectionencircles the transparent region in each pixel so that a spacercannot climb over the projectionand enter the transparent region even though a certain pressure is applied onto the substratesand. The width of the projectionis equal to or less than the diameter of the spacer. The height of the projectionis equal to or longer than approximately 1% the length of the diameter of the spacer, and it is preferable that it be equal to or longer than approximately 2%.
