Abstract
The invention is directed to a method for operating an internal combustion engine () having a compressor () which method makes possible an actualization of a pump limit of the compressor (). A pressure ratio across the compressor () is limited in dependence upon a mass flow through the compressor () by means of the pump limit in order to prevent a pumping of the compressor (). In at least one operating state of the engine (), a check is made as to whether a pumping of the compressor () occurs. The pump limit is corrected in dependence upon the test results.
