Abstract
A hitch assembly for connecting a front endof a low-loader trailer to a tow vehicleis disclosed. The hitch assembly includes: a first mountlocated at the front endof the trailer; a second mountlongitudinally spaced towards the rear end of the trailer from the first mounta gooseneck framehaving a front end and a rear end, the front end connectable to the tow vehiclea latch connectableto the front endof the trailer by engagement with the first and second mountsandthe latchpivotally connected to the rear end of the gooseneck frameand a means for rotating the latchwith respect to the gooseneck frameThe assembly is such that in use, the front end of the traileris liftable by the action of a force couple imparted entirely through the latchto the first and second mountsandThe pivotal connection between the latch and the gooseneck frame is positioned on the gooseneck such that, in use, rotation of the latchto lift the front endof the trailer, moves the trailer forwards with respect to the rear end of the gooseneck.
