Abstract

The invention relates to a method for grinding at least the running surface of a rail (), especially of a railway rail, by producing a relative movement between a grinding wheel () having a profile that mates the profile of the running surface, and a rail () in the longitudinal direction thereof. The aim of the invention is to avoid an overheating when large amounts of material are removed. To this end, the axis () of the grinding wheel () includes, with a plane () that is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rail (), an angle α that deviates from 0°.
