Abstract
An effective pixel area calculating circuit () detects position information indicating the position of a target pixel in a frame. A lacking pixel creating circuit () determines the class of the target pixel from a plurality of classes in accordance with the position information, then selects a plurality of pixels from an input image signal as a prediction tap, and carries out arithmetic processing based on conversion data obtained in advance by learning for each class and the prediction tap, thus outputting an output image signal of higher quality than the input image signal.
