A process for preparing a 2-(pyridin-4-ylamino)-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine of Formula IIcomprising reacting a 4-aminopyridine of the formulawith an alkali metal amide or hydride and a 2-alkylsulfanyl-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine of Formula Iwherein R, R, R' and R″, and aryl are as defined in the specification.
