A decanting system and method of use for a product made of viscous material, particularly a chemicotechnical substance that is discharged from a portioning deuce () in the form of a product string () and cut into its final portions includes a device to cut through the product string (). The cutting device includes a laser whose beam () is directed transversely to the product discharge direction and passes through the product string () in order to cut it into portions.
