Abstract

The present invention provides a process for producing a fluoroalkylcarboxylic acid of the formula RfCOOH wherein Rf is a Cfluoroalkyl group, which comprises oxidizing a fluoroalkyl alcohol of the formula RfCHOH wherein Rf is as defined above using nitric acid. The process according to the present invention produces a fluoroalkylcarboxylic acid with high selectivity at low costs.
