Abstract

The fuel injection device has a high-pressure pump () that supplies fuel to a reservoir and is connected to injectors disposed in the cylinders of the engine. A fuel-supply pump delivers fuel from a fuel tank to the suction side of the high-pressure pump. An electrically actuated control valve adjusts the quantity of fuel that the high-pressure pump delivers to the reservoir. The control valve is disposed on the pressure side of the high-pressure pump and can be switched between a first position, in which the pressure side of the high-pressure pump is closed off from a pressure relief region, and a second position, in which the pressure side of the high-pressure pump is connected to the pressure relief region.
