Abstract
A liquid crystal display device includes a thin film transistor (TFT) array substratea counter substrateprovided opposite to the TFT array substrateand a liquid crystal layerheld between the TFT array and counter substratesandThe TFT array substratehas display and frame areasandThere are pixel electrodes in the display areawhich each have reflective and transparent portionsandwith convex and concave portionsandrespectively. Convex and concave portionsandare also provided in the frame areawhich are substantially the same in shape as convex and concave portionsandin the display areaThe surface of a photoresist coating film in the display areashown by a dotted lineis substantially the same in configuration as that in the frame areato make the column-like spacersandsubstantially the same in height. A cell gap between the TFT array and counter substratesandis made thereby substantially uniform.
