Abstract
An optical elementcomprises an optical substrate having a lens, projectionsand, and a handle. The lensis provided to the roughly rectangular handleat a predetermined position thereon, while the projectionsandare provided to the handleat the respective positions separate from the lensby a predetermined distance and each have a semi-cylindrical shape that extends from a bottom of the handle. An overall size of an arc shape of each of the projectionsandis equal to an overall size of an optical fiber with which the optical elementis to be coupled optically. When mounting the optical elementon a support substrate having a mounting groove therein, the projectionsandbutt against the mounting groove, thereby positioning the optical elementin a direction perpendicular to an optical axis.
