The new 7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole compounds and 7-nitro-2,1,3-benzthiadiazole compounds of formula (I) are:Dyeing agents for keratin fibers containing these compounds and methods of dyeing hair with the dyeing agents are described.
