Abstract

A new method for designing a tire comprises the steps of laying up a tire having a stiff lower sidewall portion () that has a high modulus apex () and a high turn-up () and a concave shape, a flexible upper sidewall portion () that is decoupled from the tread (). The tread () is supported by a wedge () and extended belts () to substantially eliminate lateral curvature. The tire of the invention also has a rhothat comprises 60% of the section height (SH) of the tire and a shoulder radius that defines a convex shape in upper sidewall portion ().
