Abstract
From a light source (), light beams () are directed tangentially through the hook body (), the hook base (), and the bobbin case (), onto a light receiver (). Using the time (t) or the position of angular rotation of the hook body () at the impingement of the first light beam (), the diameter of the bobbin packing on the lower thread bobbin () can be calculated.
