Couplers for hair coloring compositions for oxidative dyeing of hair are compounds of the formula (1):wherein X is selected from halogen and RSOwhere the halogen is preferably Cl, Br or I; R, Rand Rare each individually selected from Cto Calkyl and Cto Cmono or dihydroxyalkyl, or two of R, Rand Rtogether with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a Cto Csaturated or unsaturated ring optionally containing in the ring one or more additional hetero atoms selected from O, S and N atoms; Rand Rare each individually selected from Cto Calkyl, Cto Chydroxyalkyl, Cto Calkoxy, Cto Caminoalkyl or Rand Rtogether form a Cto Calkylene group; and Ris selected from Cto Calkyl and Cto Cmono or dihydroxyalkyl.
