A system () for mapping an underground object () includes a conduit location recording deviceand a server (). The conduit location recording device () senses an underground object (), a unique identifier being associated with the sensed underground object (), and determines a location of the underground object (). The conduit location recording device () transmits, via a communications network (), the unique identifier and determined location to the server () for storage in a database.
