Abstract

A PDP operates with high luminous efficiency and reproduces colors faithfully. When sealing the PDP, a sealant layer ( ) is formed around the facing main surfaces of the front panel ( ) and the back panel ( ). Protrusions ( ) and depressions ( ) are formed in parts of the sealant layer ( ) to produce gaps ( ) at the periphery of the PDP. The heating performed to soften the sealant layer ( ) is conducted in a dry gas atmosphere. As a result, moisture passes from the inner space of the PDP through the gaps ( ) and out of the PDP, thereby reducing the heat deterioration in the blue phosphor layer ( ).
