Abstract

The invention is directed to improved optical crossconnnect switch configurations and implementations. In one embodiment, a beam directing unit ( ) includes an input port array ( ), input fixed mirrors ( ), an input movable mirror array ( ), an output movable mirror array ( ), output fixed mirrors ( ) and an output port array ( ). The pitch of the input mirror array ( ) is one-half the pitch of the input port array ( ) and the pitch of the output mirror array ( ) and the pitch of the output mirror array ( ) is one-half the pitch of the output port array ( ). In addition, in a reference orientation, each of the mirrors of array ( ) directs beams to a common centerpoint of output array ( ), and each of the mirrors ( ) directs beams to a common centerpoint of array ( ).
