The method provides a simple and inexpensive method for purifying gases, such as exhaust gases from internal combustion engines. The invention further relates to an apparatus for implementing the method. The apparatus comprises a support structure ( ) to which at least one spray nozzle ( ) is arranged, the operation of the spray nozzle producing a suction that creates a negative pressure in the immediate vicinity of the spray nozzle.
