Abstract
A rotational control apparatus ( ) includes multiple facings ( ) rotatable with and axially slideable relative to a mount ( ) and which sandwich multiple friction plates ( ) rotatable with and axially slideable relative to a hub ( ). To create turbulent air flow, the friction plates ( ) include an undulating outer circumferential edge ( ) and a plurality of passages ( ) in the interface portion and overlapping the inner peripheries ( ) of the facings ( ). An automotive clutch release type bearing ( ) directly abuts between a piston ( ) and the friction facing ( ) and is encapsulated in the piston cavity ( ) and a cavity ( ) formed in the friction facing ( ), with the friction facing ( ) engaging the axial end ( ) of the air chamber ( ) when the facings ( ) and the friction plates ( ) are disengaged. In the preferred form, the air chamber ( ) and the mount ( ) are of the same geometry and are machined from identical castings.
