Abstract

A wireless communication device ( ) includes a radio frequency transceiver ( ) adapted for burst transmission responsive to a control signal in accordance with at least one communication protocol and an infrared transceiver ( ) adapted for asynchronous data communication in coordination. The infrared transceiver ( ) is responsive to the control signal to suspend an ongoing data communication for the duration of the burst transmission and to resume the data communication following the burst transmission. A controller ( ) is coupled to each of the radio frequency communication module ( ) and the infrared communication module ( ), and the controller ( ) is operable to generate the control signal in accordance with the at least one communication protocol.
